We are extremely proud of the expertise and innovation of our team of highly talented designers, and a recent project on behalf of Redrow Homes (Eastern Region) certainly tested their skills to the maximum!
We first looked at this project at the beginning of 2016 but due to the geography of the site which made access extremely restricted, we did not commence supplying site with any materials until August 2017.
Oliver Richardson, Design Office Manager at Cambridge Roof Truss explains, “We were involved in the roof design at a preliminary stage, communicating with the architects directly. This gave us the freedom to shape the design to provide the ideal roof truss solution whilst keeping the project cost-effective and ensuring that the site access restrictions could be met”.
In order to make the delivery to site feasible and straightforward, we specifically designed the roof trusses to fit on a rigid vehicle. On the day of delivery, we liaised with the site manager to carefully time-manage the arrival as the trusses needed to be crane off-loaded straight onto the roof due to the space confinements.
The roof was split into two blocks and then broken down into manageable sections, but in total the project comprised over 400 individual trusses.
From the offset, this was certainly a challenging build for many reasons, but due to careful planning and close liaison with the client, we were able to deliver a robust design and smooth execution of manufacture and delivery to site.
A success story, especially as all the apartments are now all sold!
